🕯️ Faith
To be fully alive fully human and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest and faith teaches us to fly

Faith transforms being thrown from security into learning to fly.

There is something so incredibly vulnerable about the moment we leave what is familiar. Pema Chodron’s beautiful words remind us that being truly alive isn't about staying tucked away in the safety of the warmth we know, but about embracing the terrifying, exhilarating moment when we are pushed into the unknown. To be human is to experience the wind beneath our wings and the sudden drop of our feet leaving the ground. It is easy to mistake fear for a sign that we are doing something wrong, but often, that fear is simply the sensation of growth happening in real time.

In our everyday lives, we often try to build nests that are impenetrable. We seek out routines, predictable jobs, and comfortable relationships because they protect us from the sting of uncertainty. We want to stay where the temperature is steady and the edges are soft. But a life lived entirely within the nest can become quite small. We might find ourselves safe, but we might also find ourselves stagnant, wondering why the world feels so much smaller than we once imagined it could be. The real magic happens when the familiar boundaries break.

I remember a time when I felt particularly stuck, much like a little duckling afraid of the very water I was meant to swim in. I had a plan for everything, and when a sudden change forced me to abandon that plan, I felt completely lost. I felt like I was falling through the clouds without a parachute. But as I struggled to find my footing in this new, unpredictable landscape, I realized that the struggle was actually teaching me how to navigate. I wasn't just falling; I was learning how to use the currents. I was discovering strengths I never would have found if I had stayed tucked away in my cozy, predictable corner.

Faith, in this sense, isn't necessarily about religious dogma, but about the quiet trust we place in our own ability to endure and adapt. It is the belief that even when we are thrown into the middle of a storm, we possess the internal mechanics to find our way. It is the courage to trust that the air will catch us if we just keep moving our wings. This kind of faith is built in the moments when we feel most unsupported, and it becomes our greatest tool for survival.

As you move through your day, I invite you to look at the challenges that feel like they are pushing you out of your comfort zone. Instead of bracing for a crash, try to see them as an invitation to expand. Ask yourself what new parts of your spirit might take flight if you stopped clinging so tightly to the branch. You are much more capable of flight than you realize.
