🕯️ Faith
Faith is not the clinging to a shrine but an endless pilgrimage of the heart toward deeper truth

Faith is a continuous journey not a static position.

When I first read this beautiful thought by Abraham Joshua Heschel, I felt a sudden sense of relief wash over me. We often think of faith as something static, like a heavy anchor or a sturdy stone building where we go to hide from the storms of life. We treat it like a destination we have finally reached, a place where we can stop searching and simply stay safe. But Heschel reminds us that true faith isn't about clinging to a fixed point or a rigid shrine. Instead, it is a movement, a continuous and beautiful journey of the heart that never truly ends because the truth it seeks is infinite.

In our everyday lives, it is so easy to fall into the trap of seeking certainty. We want to know exactly how our stories will end, we want to be sure our values are unshakeable, and we want to feel like we have all the answers. We try to build little shrines of certainty around ourselves to feel secure. But life has a way of shaking those structures. When things change or when we face unexpected grief, we might feel like our faith has failed us. However, if we view faith as a pilgrimage rather than a monument, those moments of uncertainty aren't failures; they are simply new paths appearing on our map.

I remember a time when I felt quite lost, much like a little duckling wandering far from the nest. I had built up this idea of how my life should look, and when things started to shift, I felt like I was losing my footing. I was clinging so hard to my old ideas of what was right and stable. It wasn't until I stopped trying to hold onto the shore and started trusting the flow of the river that I found peace. I realized that the uncertainty wasn't an enemy, but an invitation to see the world with fresher, more curious eyes. I wasn't losing my way; I was simply on a deeper part of the trek.

This perspective shifts the pressure off our shoulders. You don't have to have a finished, perfect belief system to be a person of faith. You only need the courage to keep walking, to keep asking questions, and to keep your heart open to the unfolding mystery of existence. Every step you take toward kindness, every moment you seek understanding, is a part of that sacred pilgrimage.

Today, I want to encourage you to let go of the need to be certain. If you feel like you are wandering, don't be afraid. Instead, look at your journey as a beautiful, ongoing exploration. Ask yourself: what is one small way I can move toward truth today, even if I don't know exactly where the path leads?
