🕯️ Faith
The test of faith is not that we never have doubts but that we keep going despite them

True faith persists through doubt rather than denying it.

There is something quietly profound about the idea that faith and doubt can exist in the same heart at the same time. When we think of faith, we often imagine it as this unshakeable, unwavering certainty — a kind of inner fortress that never trembles. But Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a man who lived through some of the darkest chapters of human history, gently reminds us that the real measure of faith is not the absence of doubt. It is the courage to keep moving forward even when doubt is sitting right there beside you.

Doubt has a way of making us feel like we are failing. Like we are not strong enough, not faithful enough, not certain enough. It whispers that maybe we should wait until we feel more sure, more ready, more convinced. But here is the thing — that moment of perfect certainty rarely comes. Life is not built that way. And perhaps that is exactly the point. Faith was never meant to be a feeling of absolute confidence. It was always meant to be a choice we make, again and again, even on the uncertain days.

BibiDuck once sat by the edge of a quiet pond, watching the water ripple in every direction. There was no clear path across, and the far shore looked blurry in the morning mist. For a long moment, there was hesitation — what if the water was too cold, too deep, too unknown? But then came one small paddle forward. And then another. Not because the doubt disappeared, but because staying still felt like a greater loss than moving through the uncertainty. That is what Bonhoeffer is talking about. That first paddle, taken in spite of everything.

Think about a time in your own life when you kept going even though you were not sure. Maybe it was a new job you were terrified to start, a relationship you chose to nurture despite past hurt, or simply getting out of bed on a morning when everything felt heavy. You did not have certainty. You had only the quiet decision to try anyway. That decision — that small, brave act — is the very definition of faith in action.

So if you are carrying doubts today, please know that you are not broken, and you are not alone. Doubt does not disqualify you from the journey. It simply means you are human, and you are honest. The invitation is not to silence your doubts, but to gently take their hand and keep walking anyway. One step at a time, one day at a time — that is enough. That has always been enough.
